BENSON Frank Weston (1862-1951) Nationality : American

Frank Weston Benson was born to George Wiggin Benson, a successful cotton broker and Elisabeth Poole, an amateur painter and a descendent of Salem, Massachusetts founding families. His father gave him a shotgun and taught him how to hunt wildfowl in the local fields and marshes as well as shore birds along the North Shore. Benson learned to love the sea from his grandfather, Captain Samuel Benson. When he was 12, he was given a sailboat in which he explored the waterways and marshes and raced against his siblings. Each of the Benson children was given a weekly allowance, allowing them to independently explore activities of an educational nature.
